When you wear or use wool, you are actively choosing a path towards natural sustainability. Choose wool, and choose the land, the sheep, and people who are part of creating yarns and fabrics from the wool fibre. We all sustain each other 💚 #iwto #wool #sustainablefashion

Wool is naturally flame resistant. Why? Wool is naturally high in nitrogen and water content. It takes higher levels of oxygenaround to get wool to burn. If smouldering occurs on wool, it usually continues only for a short time and then stops. #wool #iwto #firesafety #fire

In vitro experiments in New Zealand showed biodegrading wool fibres after 21 days in sea water. All textiles shed fibres. The question is, what happens next. Do the fibres turn into microplastic particles? Or do they biodegrade? iwto.org/sustainability… #wool #sustainable

In a vertical wool operation, a single business takes ownership of the wool for most of the process. It can be fibre to fabric as in the case of the famous vertical woollen mills of Yorkshire. Or it can be farm to fabric. iwto.org/a-brand-on-the… #wool #traceability

Around 12.2 million tons of plastic enter the global marine environment each year. 3.2 million tons are microplastics of less than 5mm. A typical washload of polyester fabrics can release as many as 6 million microplastic pieces. iwto.org/sustainability… #wool #iwto

Selvedges, also selvages, are the extreme ends of a fabric. Selvedges contribute to the strength of a fabric by fixing the weave. They can be customised, adding aesthetic value and giving a refined aspect to the fabric. #iwto #wool #selvedges #selvages #wovenfabric #sartorial

Did you know? Herding sheep was the basis of the first domestic economy. Transhumance led shepheds to meet people from other places, and bartering and selling wool contributed to the rise of commerce, as did trade in wool products like yarns and carpets. ow.ly/qpGx50P1A2E

What's WoolAid? A merino wool bandage - like a bandaid or a plaster - with a difference: WoolAid is made with finely woven merino wool. And it just won Product of the Year at Outdoor Retailer. A win for WoolAid, and a win for wool! ow.ly/EJpY50P59zv #wool WoolAid Bandages
