If your fastest sprinter is a good starter and turn runner, it might make a lot of sense to run them 1st leg of the 4x1. You can more confidently push the zone to run up to 105m with the baton, and also cause anxiety for your competition by getting out & grabbing a big early lead

Since we’re talking about maximizing potential in the 4x100, here’s a rule of thumb for “pushing the zone”: if you attempt to do this on any leg, to minimize risk, the incoming runner must have well developed speed endurance and should be relatively faster than the outgoing.

Heal Traps. Too much cycling out of the blocks? Want to feel low heal recovery? Sometimes we can repurpose equipment to help the athletes feel the desires movement! Can't cycle the ankle up when the heel is trapped, drive that thing out!

Athletes: this is my annual plea to consider Junior College athletics. It's not a step down, it's an opportunity. My 2 years Kent State Ashtabula running JC level XC prepared me to run Kent State T&F/XC academically, athletically, socially/emotionally. There are many paths to success!

Appropriate and effective are words that I find myself using frequently. In the past I probably used specific and transfer. Words create images and images create action. The longer I am on this coaching/teaching/mentoring journey I appreciate this as a truism

This playlist is perhaps the crowning achievement of my 42 years as a T&F coach! All titles are T&F themed, and it provides the perfect ambiance for a gathering of inebriated coaches of our sport. Any additions? open.spotify.com/playlist/3Y3E4…

Always interesting to hear convos around hamstring health. Most important point I’ve heard recently is that team sport athletes need mechanically solid high speed exposures 90-95% Vmax consistently year-round. The more frequently the hamstrings have to prevent lower leg

4x100 passes using the upsweep. My athlete actually accelerated through the zone and made the pass at 18.16 mph. Last year, we dropped sometimes as low as 15mph (yikes!). Thanks for the course J.T. Ayers 🇺🇸

Hey coaches, do you think 16 months is too young to be doing depth jumps into a lunge? My grandson only did about 20 or so. Oh…I almost forgot…does anyone know if Little Tikes makes a really teeny hex bar?

Ugh…disaster narrowly averted in the 4x100. Can we please have some dialogue on the highest level at USATF about employing the underhand/upsweep exchange? 🙏🏽 It’s sooo much safer when teams have limited practice time together.

SMH. Passing method aside, My take is that substitutes should only be inserted on the first or fourth legs, where they only have to worry about 1 thing, rather than both passing and receiving Maybe someday we’ll figure out how to minimize the risk factors 💡 It’s not that hard

Looking back between his legs with head completely inverted 😬Very disorienting position. Hard to be precise. No wonder he left early. Unless KB is freelancing, this IS a coaching issue.
