Protip: If you're stuck on a coding issue, sleep on it. That way when you wake up and try to fix it and it's still broken, at least you got some sleep.

Sunday musings as I write an exec doc - It’s critical for those us building “way of life” tech to understand the human factors of our offering. For example, whatever you think of Kubernetes as a technology, it has a very powerful force working in its favor : Hope.

Periodic Reminder: When debugging, you must first accept that something you believe is true is not true. If everything you believed about this system were true, it would work. It doesn't, so you're wrong about something. This is a surprisingly common stumbling block for devs.

The whole "use env variables to configure your service" idea needs to end ASAP. It encourages poor writing habits (i.e: globals) and has zero discoverability. Solution: config should be passed explicitly via flags and then use templating to inject envs in k8s, systemd, etc..

With all the vendor events being canceled, it will be interesting to see whether all the pipeline/etc. really was dependent on hosting a big event. Genuinely curious to see how it pans out

To whomever updated istio.io/docs/setup/ins… thank you! The added examples for *dump/diff/manifest generate* are appreciated!

I love the architecture and the insight in k8s and honestly enjoy building systems around it. Then I go to deploy a pod and I'm like, "I @#$NG HATE KUBERNETES."

RPG idea: NPC gives you a quest to kill a dragon, asking by when it will be dead. Doesn’t know where the dragon is. Might not be a dragon. You must frequently report dragon’s HP. Mid-quest event: NPC leaves village, new NPC thinks dragon is a distraction. Quest reward is cut.

What's more likely? 1 - small group of AI engineers at DeepSeek figures out how to beat all of the top researchers in the world as a side project 2 - Chinese government has 100k GPUs they shouldn't have and releases open source models claiming $6m training cost as a psyop

There's some existential dread to be found here. A bot account promotes a film about 'sentient bots fighting to survive.' But the film's box-office failure will delete the on-screen bots' story forever... and with it, the promotion-bot's own purpose for existence. End of Line.
