Back in 2010, my family took a Heritage Tour with italyMONDO ourselves to Graniti (ME). We had a fantastic trip, and 11 years later I got hired to help clients get in touch with their own Italian roots. Now we’re back to see what the capital has to offer! 🇮🇹

Our adventure began with travel. We drove to BOS, then flew overnight to land in FCO bright and early CET. We relaxed and got dinner nearby at nearby Baccanale, with a view of Campo de Fiori. After 24+ hours of travel, we had to end the day with gelato. More adventures to come!

Our first full day was just that - full! We booked a trip with Welcome Italy to Pompeii & the Amalfi Coast. Charlotte & Luigi and our new friends from Scotland drove to Pompeii. Salvatore, our Pompeii Sites guide, was a wealth of knowledge. Such an interesting piece of history!

After Pompeii, Luigi drove us to the Amalfi Coast. Charlotte took us to her favorite restaurant, and then we tasted limoncello & picked up a little candy for my coworkers 🤫 We had the best day with Charlotte and Luigi from Welcome Italy TOURS - we’d highly recommend a day tour!

Day 2: Today we trekked to the Jewish Ghetto to see the ruins and try a Jewish pizza. We then wandered to the VIVE - Vittoriano e Palazzo Venezia. This now houses a museum, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and a pretty phenomenal view of Rome. The amount of marble and stone is breathtaking!

Let’s talk Campo de Fiori food: a late breakfast entailed Irish coffee and a ricotta & spinach omelette. We got suppli, zucchini flowers, and aperol spritzes. After walking that off, I finally got cacio de pepe of my own. These were some Roman standards I had to try.

Day 3: We wandered around St. Peter’s Square and soaked in the size and detail. Benjamin, our tour guide from Vivico, provided so much history on the miles worth of art throughout the Vatican Museum complex & the Sistine Chapel (no pictures!!), then a late pizza.

Day 5: We then headed toward the Museo Da Vinci, then taxied to Enoteca Trastevere, actually recommended to me by an italyMONDO client! After a rest we headed to Elle Effe for some Sicilian food - pasta alla norma and cannoli. We enjoyed a beautiful night people watching.

Day 6: Today we saw the Forum and the 🏛 Colosseo • Foro Romano • Palatino. For a 90°F + day, Alessandra from Rutas Romanas kept us all moving, entertained, and informed for 3 HOURS - definitely one of the highlights of the trip. Breakfast and dinner at Taba in Campo de Fiori!

Day 7: Early morning at the Vatican Basilica - definitely worth it! Later stopped by Piazza Novana, then dinner at Giordi and gelato at Mamma Mia Gelaterie.
