You know you're a teacher when, at a farm craft station, you go round putting all of the lids back on the glue sticks. The general public have no idea about their worth. #protecttheglue

The best teachers are lifelong students. The best storytellers are lifelong students. The best innovators are lifelong students. The best entrepreneurs are lifelong students. The day you stop learning is the day you stop making forward progress. Smart people stay teachable.

Edutwitter is literally like a staffroom, you can see all the characters, the ones tamping about a policy, ones after your worksheets, those that bring in the biccies, the gossips, the enthused newbies, old schoolers, jokers and ones that sit back and sip the tea 😂

There are SO MANY snake-oil "cures" for students with #dyslexia! The best help? Research-based word #reading instruction w/ #phonics. There's are a lot of false cures! Once, one program said somersaults could help w/reading problems. You read that right & I'm sadly not kidding.

Optimism does not mean being blind to the actual reality of a situation. It means maintaining a positive spirit to continue to seek a solution to any given problem. And it means recognizing that any given situation has many different aspects—positive as well as problematic.

I want to say something about living with acute dyslexia because Twitter can be a pretty unforgiving place for people with unseen challenges. Every day I get picked up on something I write. Mostly it’s kindly or humorous which is appreciated. Sometimes it’s sneering or brutal

It is great to have Peter join the ranks of leading dyslexics talking publicly and positively about their dyslexia. His frustrations with being assumed stupid by a niche who think grammar is synonymous with intelligence are echoed by millions of dyslexics. bbc.co.uk/news/uk-502061…

There’s a big difference between being busy and being productive: Being busy = doing lots of things Being productive = doing the most important things in the best possible way Being busy is exhausting. Being productive is energizing.

I’ve spent my whole career in schools in deprived areas, worked with amazing teachers who are committed to their schools and communities. This is counter-productive. If the accountability system impacts more in deprived schools teachers will actively not want to work in them...

What I love about fairy tales, folklore & mythology is they tell us who we are, who we were & something about the lands & the people we came from. They reveal our deepest fears & wishes, dreams & desires. These tales speak about our struggles & the longing for hope.

This term is long and difficult. I’ve seen people struggling on here with demands of school, wanting to walk away. I’ve decided to give away a copy of my book ‘Preserving Positivity’ it aims to help teachers keep a positive mindset. Just RT! I’ll pick a winner at random on Friday

The real measure of a school culture is how visitors, supply teachers, cleaners , dinner staff and site staff are treated, especially when no one is watching.
