Alhamdulillah, the ISAR Interdisciplinary Summer School 2025 opened with the first session, ‘The Foundations of Islamic Human Rights Thinking,’ delivered by Dr Jeroen Vlug.

Snapshots from our session with Arnold Yasin Mol (IUASR / Leiden): “Analyzing the Islamic Worldview: A Philosophy of Religions and Worldviews Approach.” We mapped frameworks for comparing worldviews and discussed implications for Islamic theology in our summer school this year.

Session with Dr. Martijn de Koning: “Rethinking Islamophobia and Critique of Islam: The Politics of Critique in the Netherlands.” We unpacked definitions, traced the line between critique and racializing discourse, and discussed case studies from the Dutch public sphere.

Session with Ashher Masood (Yale University): Qurʾān & Late Antiquity; Arabia in Late Antiquity—sources, epigraphy, and new angles on early Islam.

Session with Ari Schriber (Utrecht University): What makes law “Islamic” in the Maghrib + a rethink of modern historiography (methods, sources, authority). We read an Arabic court case together - was a productive lecture.
