Ladybirds survive in an inactive state of arrested development known as diapauses. Most protect themselves against freezing temperatures by producing an antifreeze. This helps them to survive the winter.Fota Wildlife Park @uccBEES

Fantastic win of the RTÉ and National Botanic Gardens Eye on Nature competition by Larry Doherty for his photograph of an Orange Ladybird. The picture, taken in April last year, is of a tiny ladybird - only 5mm in size -at Cabragh Wetlands in Thurles, Co Tipperary.

Very disturbing that the expert independent Review of NPWS by Micheál Ó Cinnéide and Jane Stout is being ‘edited’ or “mitigated”? for Cabinet, before the public can see it. Did the Review not meet Departmental expectations, or did it expose chronic, embarrassing flaws? 1/4
