On 28-29 July NMI Advisors hosted a 2-day workshop on crisis management, organized by the National Defence College and the Defence University for Military Studies. Key conclusions: the need for common understanding of terms & procedures and the value of a proper planning process

The Iraqi Staff College conducted a Command Post Exercise from 11 to 15 August, simulating a complex military scenario involving a fictional conflict inviting NMI advisors as guest observers. Exercise provided valuable insights into the strengths and areas for improvement.

On 20-21 August, NMI organized a workshop at the Military Inspector General’s office on understanding and detecting corruption in Security & Defense. The main topics were the key risk areas and acts of corruption, its impact, and to better identify it during inspections.

On 21 August, NMI hosted and chaired the Security Coordination Group, with representatives from EUAM, UNAMI, UNDP Iraq, CJTF-OIR, OSC-I, EU Delegation, US and UK Embassies, to discuss topics such as the implementation of Iraq’s Security Reform Strategy. #workingtogether4iraq

On 22 August, the Commander of NMI visited the Naval Force Commander. Together they discussed the cooperation between the Iraqi Naval Forces and NMI. This was a very constructive meeting and Commander of NMI is confident in continuing a successful working relationship. #WeAreNMI

On 17-22 August, Advisors from NMI’s Professional Security Education Division assisted the Education Cadre Development Centre of the Iraqi Security Forces for the 2nd NATO Orientation Course to give participants a better understanding of NATO’s organization and activities.

On 27 August, Iraq’s Chief of Defence and the Director of NMI’s Professional Security Education Division attended the graduation ceremony of the Junior Officers’ Course at the Command College. In his speech, the Dean of the College thanked the NMI Advisors for their contribution.

On 26-29 August, NMI conducted the 2nd phase of the NATO Foundational Faculty Development Programme at the Elite NCO School, discussing and debating adult learning, instructional design, student centered learning techniques, curriculum development, assessment/evaluation methods.

On 5 Sept, Acting Commander NMI BGen Buls received newly arrived Ambassador of the Netherlands Mrs Alberda for a courtesy call at Union III and discussed current priorities and issues related to NMI, and thanked the Netherlands for its current Command and continued contribution.

On 6 Sep, NMI Deputy COM, BGen Barbra Buls, and Command Sergeant Major René Budding, recognized US Army Postal Clerks assigned to the Military Post Office. The team is responsible for incoming and outgoing mail for NMI personnel and processed 1200 kg of mail each week.

On 28 August, the Iraqi Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Response Centre conducted a demonstration of receiving, handling and analysis of chemical samples. The CBRN Centre and NMI’s Training Development Division agreed on future support by NATO advisors.

On 3 September, NMI Advisors delivered a Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) workshop at the Iraqi War College on threats, protection and new developments in CBRN. The Dean of the War College expressed his gratitude to NMI for the continued co-operation.

On 10 Sep, Deputy Commander NMI, BrigGen Buls received the Chargé d’affaires of the German Republic, Mr Roland Westebbe, for a courtesy call at Union III. They discussed current priorities and issues related to NMI. BrigGen Buls thanked Germany for its continued contribution.

Today, NATO Mission Iraq hosted 2nd Defence Attaché Day at Union III: an interactive and fruitful meeting of NMI leadership and representatives of Allied Troop-Contributing Nations, to discuss current activities, priorities, challenges, and expectations for future activities.

On 8-12 Sep, NMI advisors supported EUAM Iraq and the EU Delegation in Iraq for the 3rd of a series of 5 EU-funded forensic techniques workshops to improve the technical and investigative skills of Ministry of Interior law enforcement officers dealing with counter-terrorism.

Yesterday, NMI and the Iraqi Ministry of Defense co-hosted a high-level workshop at the Defense University for Higher Military Studies, in support of the Ministerial Reform Committee’s efforts to develop an implementation plan for the National Security Sector Reform Strategy.
