I've long wondered if my dad's snoring hurt my mom. Undercut the other things she did that should have helped. (She did stay clear longer than her two siblings who had problems.) sciencealert.com/one-stage-of-s…

Nope. Amyloid is at best weakly correlated with Alzheimer's Disease. Do NOT get your hopes up. There are many credible scientists who think Amyloid is GOOD and not BAD. That Amyloid is an -- at least at first -- GOOD response to Alzheimer's. Which makes removing it DANGEROUS.

WHY?!? (I assume because it's not Amyloid and it "distracts" from Amyloid. God forbid, studying it might FIND something. Something not Amyloid.)

And consistent with the idea that, at least to a point/degree, Amyloid is GOOD and not BAD. That blindly removing Amyloid -- both Good & Bad types? -- is a BAD idea. We don't know enough about Amyloid to justify blindly removing it.

A fairly devastating critique. But what's weird is Catholics, in the aftermath of the sex abuse crisis, are acting EXACTLY as predicted by FRS in "When Prophecy Fails." How to square the circle? (I'd start with the investment differences between Martin's group and the church.)

While I take some of the points, as a survivor of the Catholic sex abuse crisis -- all of my family knows of my experience and a small percentage have LEFT the church, but most have STAYED -- I believe there's some truth to WPF. Having to do with the level of commitment?

As a survivor of the Catholic sex abuse crisis, I'm living "When Prophecy Fails." Most of the people I know are aware of my story and remain Catholic. It may be that the Chicago group wasn't sufficiently invested. Unlike Catholics.

It's not that new Alzheimer's drugs don't WORK. They just don't do any GOOD. "...treatment with semaglutide resulted in improvement of Alzheimer’s disease-related biomarkers... in two separate trials, this did not translate into a delay of disease..." cnbc.com/2025/11/24/nov…

But the average person is demonstrably biased. Does NOT think well. CBS Evening News with Tony Dokoupil, thanks to Bari Weiss, is now in the business of telling people what they want to hear. P.S. As for the truth?

I study authoritarianism for a living, so I do not say this lightly: America isn't facing an authoritarian future. America is living an authoritarian present. (A long 🧵) /1
