SCOOP: Students at a Jacksonville, Florida performing arts high school say they’re being censored and they believe that the state’s law targeting LGBTQ+ youth is to blame. The school district denies the connection. The cast is speaking out anyway: teenvogue.com/story/jacksonv…

The Duval school district dropped the curtain on "Indecent," a play about censorship and gay characters. The district said the production at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts wasn't appropriate for students. DA Cinematic Arts #indecent #broadway buff.ly/3Ztyn5w

Dear Hive mind: do people have business emails for the Duval School System board members in Jacksonville Florida? What about the Principal of Douglas Anderson School for the Arts?

Colleagues in Jacksonville, FL: what a rich community you have! Please support the high school students at Douglas Anderson School for the Performing Arts who feel (and are being) bashed by their school board for trying to produce INDECENT. Contact the board and principal please!

Dear Principal Tina Wilson, Superintendent Diana Greene: As a teacher&administrator for 40 years, I know it’s not easy. Buy why cancel INDECENT rather than structuring post-play discussions? It is a unique way to look at the Holocaust as well as gender and censorship&antisemitism

Paula Vogel I love teaching Indecent in my high school drama class. So much to explore, such an exquisite play. I’m sorry it’s not taught everywhere.

This story has sort of wrecked me this afternoon Paula Vogel I wonder if anyone from Duval with access to a theatre could help these students put the play on on schedule? If so, I’d be willing to throw down some funds to pay for rehearsal space, snacks, labor etc. LETS DO THIS!

New century, same hatred. “In 1923 in New York, a Yiddish play that featured the first lesbian scene on a Broadway stage was censored for being indecent. In 2023 in Florida, a play about the first play has been canceled for the same reason.” links.forwardcdn.com/u/click?_t=461…
