Cool #SnailKite nesting behavior - during last year's breeding season, a nest camera recorded a nest collapse after a strong storm rolled in. Days later, an egg appeared on the remaining nest structure! After some nest building, a new nest was formed in the same spot.

It takes a small army to tag and track #SnailKites. We are deploying VHF & GPS/GSM transmitters on juvenile snail kites to better understand movement and survival. The first 2 months after fledging can be a vulnerable time when they are still learning to fly and feed themselves.

Got to go out with the UF Snail Kites crew today onto a property that has kites nesting within it. Always a good day. Chicks that are old enough are measured, weighed, banded, and then placed back on their nests. Will post some photos soon.
