Good article explaining what the PDs are asking for and why. DAs get paid less than most government lawyers, but still get paid more than we do. PDs are required by the Constitution, and we have to be able to effective at our jobs. Hard when we can’t pay people enough….

You know the situation is critical when prosecutors agree public defenders need more funding. Prosecutor to legislators: "I want you to give as much money to the public defenders as they need..." sourcenm.com/2023/11/20/n-m… via Source New Mexico || bsky @sourcenm.com

This is a big deal of a case for the Court to only deal with via dispositional order. The district judge did a good job, though. So I guess they felt like they didn’t need to say more. Still, interesting ….

Wow. Completely inappropriate. Surprised it took so long for one of the attys to object. After months of jury selection in a huge case, you would think a DA would know way better than this. Between this and other issues, they’re lucky this isn’t already a mistrial.

What Emily said. Seriously, anyone who has been a prosecutor for any amount of time knows this. Someone making the opening statement in a huge high profile RICO case? Not possible they didn’t know better.

Hey everyone! It's time for the weekly video! Up this week: housing. Housing is vital for safety: people with housing may be up to 80% less likely to commit crimes. But did you know that criminal courts are actively *stripping people of housing?*

You know it was many thousands more after the last couple of months. Most interesting - the prosecutor is staying on Gutierrez-Reed’s other trial, even though there doesn’t seem to be any need for a special prosecutor on that case, & despite everything santafenewmexican.com/news/local_new…

My friend and colleague did a great job in this article. Hopefully in this upcoming session, our legislators look critically at the Governor’s agenda. santafenewmexican.com/opinion/my_vie…

My friend Scott Hechinger with a great thread on the issue. In NM, despite much news copaganda, the issue hasn’t been the “whether” to do bail reform, but on the “how.” No serious person in NM wants to go back to the way it was. Bondsmen, overcrowding, overloaded system.

My first post in a long time, great work by Austin Fisher regarding the President’s attempt to undo bail reform. sourcenm.com/2025/09/02/new…
