Road death is preventable. Challenge the complacency. In memory of my daughter Alice - forever 12 - who was killed in a totally avoidable road crash.

The start of the new Parliament struck me as a good day to send this round again. #VisionZero The visibility of road death and injury trauma, and the impact on families, communities and professionals need to be maintained. #stoproaddeath #GDL

During September the National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC) road safety focus is the #fatal4 and young drivers. A priority for young drivers is getting over the line of passing their test yet this is the beginning of their learning to drive, not the end.

To me this is both confirmatory and scary. Using US data The Economist demonstrate that drivers of the heaviest vehicles kill more people (crashes) than they save (being inside a so called ‘safe’ vehicle). In the UK the size of our vehicles is also increasing exponentially

Interesting choice of headline ⁦BBC News (UK)⁩ ⁦BBC Yorkshire⁩ - no mention that the driver was “significantly over the drink drive limit and has cocaine in his system” but that ⁦National Highways⁩ needed to make signage improvements. #Fatal5 bbc.com/news/articles/…

One of things I love about many of the folk who work in the stopping road death tribe is a ‘how can I help’ attitude. Case in point on Graduated Driving Licensing: Prof Rebecca Ivers AM - would you present when you’re in London? = of course. Dr Shaun Helman TRL - would you
