anime theater events are some of the only ways that an animated movie gets to have a cultural moment these days. Aang was perfectly set up to recieve that moment & the people who made the decision to take that away are so shortsighted

truly the worst thing that could've happened to this movie. going from an epic theater experience to phone content shallowly consumed and nitpicked in compressed clips on twitter...awful, undignified, embarrassing. especially when I know in IMAX it would've blown everyone away.

I have so many mixed feelings about this. As an animator who worked tirelessly on some productions that received an underwhelming official release, I can understand how frustrating it might be to see links and uploads of something you worked on circulating around like free candy.

We worked on the aang movie for years with the expectation that’d we’d get to celebrate all of our hard work in theaters.. just to see people unceremoniously leak the film and pass our shots around on twitter like candy.. (1/3)

We live in the absolute goofiest timeline where Glitch, an independent animation studio, is about to make millions at the box office, while Paramount - an 100year old studio yanked a sure fire financial hit from theaters only to have it leak on twitter 6months before release.

The way Viacom has treated the Avatar franchise since The Legend of Korra is just despicable. Even after the franchise was completely resurrected and reinvigorated during the pandemic, that corporate umbrella still can’t see the unlimited value in it. So disappointing.
