I worry that emphasizing green H2's (GH2's) environmental edge will mislead the uninitiated into visualizing a pump island with various H2 grades. Where GH2 electricity goes (mobility) and where it comes from (intermittent renewables) is one system. That's what matters.

Anyone who follows the hydrogen transition can see that 2035 is shaping up to be electrochemistry's annus mirabilis. Apollo 11 was in 1969. Big Oil didn't cost the climate those 66 years; it was Big Media's nescience. NC (its home state) STILL hasn't heard of 2003's hydrail.

All fuels are eventually subject to depletion. Hydrogen is not. Ergo, it's unhelpful when pundits characterize hydrogen as a fuel when writing for the non-technical public. Hydrogen, copper, electrolyzers, transformers & fuel cells are grid components; NOW the grid has spacetime!

Most of the reported instances of "making green hydrogen" are actually "harvesting intermittent renewable energy" and storing and/or delivering it via H2 electrochemical technology. The tendency to call H2 a "fuel" is an unfortunate extraction-era meme that muddies the water.

I strongly doubt all conspiracy theories...but IF "Big Oil" planted the impossible idea of pre-truck-stop H2 cars jumping the queue and emerging before H2 semi's, planes or ships in order to stave-off the looming demise of carbon extraction, it's certainly worked wondrous well!

If the hydrogen transition is to deliver climate change mitigation, media "climate solutions deniers" must be won over as a high priority; the general public needs to be kept acurately and continuously INFORMED ABOUT THE GLOBAL PROGRESS and the economics of the H2 transition.

The two meaningful classes of hydrogen are synthesis- and extraction-derived. Synthesis-sourced H2 enables intermittent sourcing upstream and mobile uses downstream, is inexhaustible and leaves no problematic residue. Extraction-sourced H2: just the mobile use part.
