An empty gym (or driveway, park), a basketball, an imagination--not many better memories. Where dreams can become realities. Fall in love w/the game & process

Dana Altman: “Everybody kind of gave themselves to the team. The NCAA Tournament is not an individualized sport. We either all go or no one goes. Those guys really wanted to go. Every one of them gave up a little bit of what they wanted to do for what the team needed them to do.”

Players: You can’t rely on your practices, open gyms or AAU games to replace your skills training. Practices are focused on team concepts, but you play games at the skill level you have. As a player, your individual development has to be a commitment that you are accountable for.

Shooting isn’t something you can practice occasionally and expect results. The best shooter shoot the most! Outwork everyone.

Wofford’s Mike Young went 74-103 without a winning season in his first 6 years. Since then, he has been to the NCAA tournament 5 times in 10 years. Sustaining a winning foundation takes time, patience, and losing seasons. Most coaches/staffs do not have that luxury.

In order for Steph Curry and Klay Thompson to leave the gym every day after practice they have to make 90 out of 100 threes. Lot's of great players have a “ticket” out of the gym every day. This “ticket” should involve improving a player’s weakness.

Players: Off season is the time to focus on development! Every day you should be doing something to separate yourself & widen the gap between you & your competition. What are you doing today to get better? How’re you making it a priority? Be honest with yourself & then get busy!

At the end of the day, getting better is on the player. Coaches can beg and plead, but if the player doesn't want it, it won't matter.

“The Price of a Dream” 💭 Most find out what it really costs and run away from it. Early mornings. Late nights. Sacrifices. Disciplined habits. Boredom. Loneliness. Frustration...etc The truth is...it costs more than most are willing to give up 🤷‍♂️

Some players simply don’t get it. They don't understand how much dedication/purposeful work is required. They don’t give enough consistent effort! They want all the glory without any of the work. If you want it, you have to earn it! It takes what it takes. Do you want it enough?
