Global temperatures were extremely hot in June 2024, at just over 1.5C, beating June 2023's previous record-setting temperatures by 0.14C and coming in around 0.4C warmer than 2016 (the last major El Nino event). Now 2024 is very likely to beat 2023 as the warmest year on record

Breaking: China’s CO2 emissions fell 1% in Q2 of 2024, the first quarterly fall since the end of zero-Covid, following five straight quarters of increases. Full-year emissions are on track to fall this year, but only if electricity demand growth eases as expected.

This may be one of the most world changing trends in energy and climate playing out right now. China's auto market moves about 26-27 million new vehicles each year, almost twice as large as the US market. China is such a HUGE lever in global emissions and oil demand.

Climate change is complex, but the math of CO2 is actually pretty simple. Increasing emissions ➡️ faster warming Flat emissions ➡️ constant warming Decreasing emissions ➡️ slowing warming Zero emissions ➡️ stopping warming Negative emissions ➡️ cooling

At the end of July the NEV trade in subsidy in China was doubled to close the 2020 subsidy level. In August EV sales have jumped, surpassing 1 million units for the first time - will this be sustained in the coming months, or is this a direct reaction to the policy? #EV #battery
