We’re back! Like most museums, we were hit hard by the pandemic. We took the time to do a thorough inventory (10k+ items!) and our Dir. of Ed., JoAnne Spiller, put together a textiles exhibit on view until July 1. Here’s a peek!

A close up look at one of our #frockingFabulous garments from our current exhibit. This beauty is from the early 1900s and is a dream in layers of lace. There are more than 60 snaps and/or hook and eye closures! #vintageclothing #museumarchive

We were recently gifted with a beautiful 1920’s wedding dress, veil & shoes. It had been stored in an ordinary cardboard box w/regular tissue paper. Once we’ve examined it, she will be properly stored for a future exhibit. This is what happens when you wrap silk in regular tissue

#costumejewelry friends. I’m in need of a copy of Adorning Fashion: The History of Costume Jewellery to Modern Times by D Farmeti Cera for some brief research. Is anyone able to help? Thank you!

It may not seem that these two things have anything in common, but they do! They are a teaser for our next exhibit, which will focus on Bill Smith, award-winning Black jewelry designer from VisitMadison, Inc. !
