We would like to wish all of our families a very happy Christmas and a wonderful New Year.

This week, Hillside Junior School are celebrating National Storytelling Week. The children in the lower school will be visiting a different class each day and listen to a range of wonderful stories being read aloud.

Children came into school today dressed in red and pink to celebrate Valentine's Day

While half of year 6 visited Northwood to complete STEM activities, the remaining Year 6 were set a challenge to build a structure which would support a 200g weight, using a plastic cup, art straws and string. Some children even managed to build a structure to support 1kg!

We hope you have an enjoyable half term and look forward to seeing you back at school on Wednesday 23rd February at 8.50am. School is closed to pupils on Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd February for Staff Training.

Year 4 visited The British Museum today for a Greek Myth workshop and to see Roman and Ancient Greek artefacts. This supported their recent learning in history. We had a brilliant day!

We celebrated World Book Day in true Hillside fashion, by embracing it completely. The children looked fabulous in their costumes and created an amazing buzz around school all day. We shared books with different year groups, had a visit from some year 7 children from Northwood.

On Tuesday, year 4 visited Fairfields Church, Northwood Hills to support our RE lessons this half term. We are learning about how important Easter is to Christians and the children were fantastic at answering all the questions they were asked about this celebration.

As part of our International Women's Day celebration, international football striker Helen Ward visited Hillside Junior School on Wednesday to talk to the children about her career and how the value of resilience has helped her to achieve success. Thank you Helen.

Year 3 celebrated Roman Day today. We explored Roman mosaics, created our own Roman coins using Roman numerals and ended the day with races and a fest on the field.

This week, Year 3 visited St. Albans Cathedral. The children enjoyed a day packed with activities such as; storytelling, mosaic making, touring the cathedral, dressing up as Romans and visiting the remains of St. Alban. Thank you to all the parents who accompanied us on the trip.

Our children have been enjoying the new playground markings in the sunshine.

This afternoon, the children in Year 6 and Year 3 spent their reading time on the field sharing stories together. After such a long time of separating year groups, it is wonderful to see children interacting and sharing a love of reading in the sunshine.

We kicked off Sports Week with a visit from Freestyle Footballer Jamie Knight. The children were enthralled and inspired with his skills and growth mindset.

Happy Diwali to all our families who are celebrating.

Year 4 have been learning about appliqué in Design and Technology and enjoyed designing and sewing their own cushions.

Hillside Junior School have been thoroughly enjoying Sports Week, during which they have had a go with a variety of different activities including boxing, archery, K-Kwon Do, skateboarding and lots more!

To promote our 6Rs, all of Hillside spent a day at Go Ape! The children showed great resilience and strengthened relationships with their peers during a range of team building activities.
