Having missed it on previous visits it was great to catch up with the Deeping Glossy Ibis on Friday evening. Despite the poor light it was still able to show off its fantastic plumage! Lincs Wildlife Trust Lincsbirding

Despite 40 mph winds it was good to visit RSPB Freiston Shore on Monday. Good collection of waders present but most including the Pec Sand remained fairly distant. Favourite for me were the Curlew Sands - always great to see!

Amongst the most stunning neotropical birds are the Tanagers. Particular favourites of mine on this trip are the amazing and endemic Brazilian Tanager, the endemic Rufous Headed, and the near endemic Green Headed, & Red Necked Tanagers. Just fantastic!

Hummingbirds are clear favourites for visitors to the neotropics! I ❤️ them! -here are pics of highlights from my recent Brazil trip - Festive Coquette, Green Crowned Plovercrest, & Black throated Mango. Capturing them in flight is challenging, but I had a go! #brazilbirding

Realistically far too far away for photography but I couldn't resist these record shots of a long awaited county tick. I didn't expect 2 Red throated diver at once though!! Also nice to finally get that 3rd diver species on the county list! Herts Bird News

A nice couple of evenings down the road at Lemsford. But shocked to hear of the apparent plan to build 90 houses up to the reserve boundary. This small site simply couldn't survive the impact of this. Herts & Middlesex Wildlife Trust Herts Bird News

Stopped off briefly at Willow Tree Fen this afternoon. Too early for the roosting Cranes but the 7 Cattle Egret were ample compensation. Incredible how they have established themselves over recent years. Lincs Wildlife Trust

Its a surprisingly long time since I last saw a Dartford Warbler, and my last Herts bird was almost 20 years ago in Essendon, so it was good to catch up with this local bird in Tewin today. Herts Bird News

Arrived at Covenham Res late this afternoon and after some effort eventually tracked down the Black-Throated Diver & GN Diver together in SE corner. Too dark and distant for pics, so here are some of a Christmassy Louth instead!

A few days in Norfolk is a family tradition at this time, but this year was unusual in providing a British tick! Only record shots as the bird was always super distant when we were there, but thought I should post these of the kite given it's my 1st British tick in about 6 years!

2025 closes having been something of an ' Annus Horriblis' personally. That said, plenty of happy & memorable moments. As always, nature has been so important for my health, so let's welcome in 2026 with these pics of this weeks fantastic Eastern Black Redstart in Sheringham!

Called into Lemsford Springs late pm hoping to finding a Jack. No luck but I bet one's there. Cold weather has seen an influx of Common Snipe though, & at dusk out popped this Water Rail. Bit dark for good pics at 4pm but this wasn't bad - always a good bird to see! Herts & Middlesex Wildlife Trust

Well, I called it on my weekend post & sure enough the Jacks have been found at Lemsford. As it's walking distance I popped out for a late lunch & saw 3 different birds in 30 mins. Also tried out my new lens which did well in the conditions I think! Herts & Middlesex Wildlife Trust @hertsbirds

Family trip to Lincoln allowed some birding as usual! Pleased to eventually pick out the very distant Snow Goose amongst a huge flock of Whoopers, and LE Owl at Deeping is always nice, but highlight for me was the GG Shrike at Fillingham!
