i think we live in a literary culture (and culture in general) that prizes the ability to travel often for opportunities like conferences, retreats, residencies, readings, etc. there's prestige attached to all that when i'd love more funding for... staying at home & writing

Always found it interesting how many patriarchal cultures are obsessed with passing down the father's family name but it's only the mother's DNA that can be traced all the way back to "Eve." Every single person's body still contains a record of their first mother.
