A surgical suture was not designed to take part, biologically, in wound healing. In a patient with defective healing, body can't heal on its own. A mesh from suture material has no wound healing properties. How will the body heal at all? Loss of structure and function? #science

A 2001 paper that I feel warranted further research and in 19 years there hasn't been much. Why not? The results were very compelling. researchgate.net/publication/11…

It remains shocking to me that any suegeon would be unable to remember what kind of mesh they typically use in a hernia repair operation that they regularly perform…but it seems to be extremely common. @

Interesting paper looking at mesh v no mesh in umbilical hernias <1cm: - short term more patients could feel mesh related symptoms - long term less hernia recurrences with mesh (0.2% vs 1.7%) - no other major differences I’d still not use mesh: It’s not worth risking mesh
