Deeply saddened and outraged by the murder last night of fellow writer - fellow citizen - Lyra McKee. Now more than ever when it feels as if there are no words we have to go on finding words. Seamus Heaney Centre

Thanks so much everyone who supported me in last night’s Belfast Sleep Out. I’m lucky: I got up from this and went home to my own bed, a hot shower. To those facing another night out, love. Please keep supporting to #endyouthhomelessness MACS Supporting Children & Young People

Working today, as I work most every day, with this close at hand, when I heard word that Jonathan Bardon has died. A lovely man, a wonderful historian, and a great great citizen of Belfast. Thank you, Jonathan, for opening up our city to us when all around was closing down.

My first job, 1981, Crane’s bookshop, daily sprints to the Eason warehouse on Donegall Street: a cathedral of books, with people who knew the trade inside out. Devastated for the 144 staff in 7 remaining Easons shops here. We will all be reduced by their closure.

Still reeling from news of the loss of Helen Madden, friend to so many, former MA student Seamus Heaney Centre, force for good and for mischievous good fun, fine, fine writer and far, far, far, far more.

So, day 1 of my festival to mark Shakespeare 400, 1916 & 47th anniversary of Creedence's greatest song. I'm calling it Bard Moon Rising.

Declan Hill's pint, Declan Hill's book, Belfast's great good fortune to have the man and his eye on the city. Take a walk with him: take 12
