“Bumper stickers and ‘I Love My Library’ totes won’t cut it in 2023. We must organize against censorship and learn from our neighbors and community members who have been organizing for generations.” - @DustinTheFife

I get that no library wants to be the test case, and especially not against litigants who will find an entire war chest at their disposal if they ask, but this sounds much more like "we learned nothing from when the TERF came to town" than anything else.

A fair amount of learning you have sleep apnea is because you get a partner who you keep awake with your snoring, gasping, and not breathing at night. If you don't have a partner, if you seem tired all the time, despite getting what should be a proper sleep, get checked.

So apparently while I was asleep, a paper in the UK published an article about how, if you focus, study, and lie, you can get a mental health diagnosis you don't need. And because access to ADHD meds is already being restricted and attacked, it's going to be used to do harm.

It says something about the mind set of forced birth advocates that they work on the assumption that if you're not actively menstruating, then you're pregnant. Mostly, they never learned how to keep their fantasy lives to the group of people who have consented to be part of it.

Everything this article says, and also add the threats to get rid of libraries or defund them because they're insufficiently aligned with the kinds of people who complain about having to share library space with unhoused, ill, young, nonwhite, and queer people.

It's still June, so even after the parade and the floats, you have to be on the lookout for the #UPDuckHunt material, or you'll miss things like this cute skateboarder duck hanging at least a couple of toes off the board. Maybe go check out the local skate park while you look.

Seanan hits the nail on the head. The Unqualified want to ban books because those books suggest that the world is full of all kinds of people, and that's okay. (They also believe, wrongly, that if you prevent a child from seeing themselves, they will somehow not be themselves.)

Settle in for more absurdity coming out of @kellerisd: Outrageous complaints received about books on our library preview purchase list. These titles have all been scratched from purchase for further review using our district bookbanning rubric. Here are the laughable complaints/1

This is horrible in a lot of ways, but a particular thing that especially bothers me is that they expect library workers to interpret "gender identity," "sexual conduct," and "sexual conduct" -- which is present in nearly EVERY children's book -- in a more specific, bigoted way.
