On 13 February 1960, France conducted its first nuclear test at Reggane in the Sahara desert, in its North African colony Algeria. After 4 atmospheric and 13 underground tests, France’s nuclear program relocated to Ma’ohi Nui. Over 30 years, there were another 193 nuclear tests.
