So much of that era set the tone for what we have now. The idea that not only should elites never be held accountable for anything, but that the public should be kept in line by seeing these idiots, monsters and other assorted charlatans actively rewarded for their errors.

Also just a great question in general. You learn a lot from asking it. For instance I once asked this of someone and they turned out to be a therapist for people who compete in 'World's Strongest Man' competitions. And also they were marrying one of their clients.

One thing about fatherhood that I didn't anticipate is having to re-learn the GCSE science curriculum just to keep up with my six year-old's special interests. He spent the whole morning before going to his grandparents talking about beryllium.
