As we start a week of eating disorder awareness week, I find myself irritated by this picture & many like it. It appears to be saying that people who have eating disorders, eat only apples & drink water, eat nothing, & weigh themselves compulsively, ED's come in ALL sizes.

I'm not engaging much with eating disorders awareness week this year. The way I want to raise awareness is to raise the alarms, raise a storm, raise a riot of public outrage about the immense injustices that silently ruin lives.

Sticking to the theme of my post yesterday, yet another image that does not remotely represent the significantly high eating disorder population that do not weigh themselves (through fear or maybe neurodivergence) do not eat salads, or indeed ever measure themselves.

So, here’s the thing, despite countless eating disorders awareness weeks, access to adequate support for individuals with eating disorders in the UK remains a significant concern. Furthermore, specialised services and helplines face substantial challenges as do their patients.

Not everyone who suffers with eating disorders are anorexic & not everyone with eating disorders live on apples and yet if you look at most images such as this, you may well be convinced that is the case especially on an eating disorder awareness week, 3% of people are anorexic

Telling a disabled person who can’t work that they will be punished with if they don’t work… is like saying to an average non-disabled person they will have their pay withheld if they can’t run a 4 minute mile… Utterly meaningless and impossible to achieve.

Understandably a lot of focus on PIP, but we also need to ensure that they do not bring in the horrible changes proposal for ESA/UC and the LCWRA “reforms” (cuts). Any tightening of criteria or changes to these will directly affect some of the most vulnerable in society.

Adolescence (Netflix) is a gripping & unsettling portrayal of modern youth, exploring themes of social isolation, toxic ideologies, & the consequences of failing systems. Adolescence forces us to confront hard truths about generational trauma, misogyny, & the incel community.

This week is Neurodiversity Celebration week and before I join this week I wanted to respectfully say, that for some neurodivergent individuals they may not view their differences as a celebration and I believe that we must be mindful about that. #neurodiversitycelebrationweek

I don't think it is understood how much prep goes into attending a medical appointment for EDS / HSD / chronically ill patients. It takes planning, organising support, ensuring adequate rest is planned before and after the appointment. It's not just the physical, emotional too.

Cutting PIP and disability benefits is cruel and misguided. These payments help disabled people work, stay mobile, and live with dignity. Calling these cuts “reassuring” is an insult - many constituents have told me they’re terrified. This must not happen.

I felt cynical about a neurodivergent celebration week as for many it simply is not a celebration, and yet as the week went on and my emails and conversations became full of despair, I found myself becoming also full of despair. The poster below speaks for itself #welfarereforms

When I was working, PIP helped me stay in work. Now I can't work, PIP is vital money to help pay for things I need to manage my health and stay alive. It's not enough, but it's a vital lifeline. No disabled person should have that taken away from them

I loved this musical, however, I would urge anyone who pursues clothes & fashion as the Holy Grail to find a more fulfilling path, & the same goes for the empty ambition of the soul-destroying pursuit of thinness, anorexia being the Devil. #anorexia #eatingdisorders

The brilliant series Adolescence continues to provoke a much needed debate up and down the country. I do worry that we often appear to ‘helicopter parent’, our children in so many aspects of their life & yet pay scant attention to the virtual world they often hide within.

He trashed his family as Prince Philip was dying.. he trashed his family as The Queen was dying… and now he’s trashing his family as both his father and sister-in-law have been battling cancer. Is there a more contemptible public figure in the world than Prince Harry?
