Together with our UN partners, we successfully brought aid through Adre, Chad to assist people in very remote locations in Darfur, Sudan. Thousands of lives are at stake. The parties to the Sudan war must ensure the safe passage of aid so this life saving operation can continue.

It was a pleasure to speak with Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus today on the need for solutions for the #Rohingyas and on how to help young refugees have better futures. We will discuss further at #UNGA and in Dhaka. I assured Dr Yunus of UNHCR’s full support.

Rapidly increasing numbers of people fleeing their homes = extremely limited shelter options. I met this Syrian family, including older persons and children, who, like many others, spent the night in the streets. We are working urgently with partners to find solutions for them.

Today I met some of the 500 Sudanese refugees who arrive daily in the Chadian town of Adre. 61,000 have arrived in Chad since the beginning of the month. 223,000 since the beginning of the year. 700,000 since the start of the conflict. A tragedy which a ceasefire could stop.

The stories I’ve heard from Sudanese refugees in Chad are beyond harrowing. No one, anywhere, should ever endure what they have endured. The world needs to hear their voices. We must #KeepEyesOnSudan.
