Anchorage received 9.9' of snow yesterday and the high temp was +2F. There are 436 days with a high of +2F or colder (since 1916). Before yesterday, the most snow on those 436 days was 1.5' (1/4/1917). 9.9' had never fallen on a day with a high temp under +15F.

The pandas from the national Zoo will land in Anchorage at 4pm today. Do our city and state leaders have the courage to grant them political asylum?

Recently, two of California's largest home insurance providers have halted policy sales, citing rising wildfire risk. A growing body of research shows the connections between climate and housing are multifold. Homeowners, renters, and policymakers need to prepare. Thread 🧵 1/13

How did European cities get their human-centric streets and public spaces? Why could they escape the car-dependent status quo, while North America seemingly can’t?

There's one EASY trick planners and engineers don't want you to know about: Street Experiments. 🧵 1/

Authorship in economics is in alphabetical order, yet being listed last lowers perceived contribution!

So top Chinese econ PhDs in the US with last names at the end of the alphabet are 20% more likely than others to return to China rather than land a job in a US econ department.
