The only broad gauge form of 'modern traction' to be taken into GSR stock, Engineers Department No. 1 had been built by Charles Price in 1911 to work the Achill Branch. Its 27hp petrol engine couldn't cope & it was used in service stock until 1926 before languishing at Inchicore.

The last hurrah of the LRTL's tour of Irish lines was visiting the Tralee & Dingle on 11 June 1953, reintroducing passenger workings after 14 years. A crowd gathered to see them off & as no carriages remained, 2 vans were 'furnished' with wooden benches & some off the platforms!

Having scaled the 680ft Glenagalt Pass, Hunslet 2-6-0T 8T rests with the LRTL tour as its members mill about the abandoned platform of the titular station. These stops, & taking on water at Castlegregory & Annascaul, meant that it would take 3 1/4hr to reach Dingle - 45min late.

At Garrynadur, another photo stop was taken for those willing to trek down the line a mile to Lispole Viaduct - Jim M. Jarvis being one of the enthusiasts foolhardy enough, taking a shot of 8T before leaving. From Garrynadur, the line fell at 1 in 29 for a mile before Lispole.

Jarvis' gambit proved fruitful, shooting 8T posed on Lispole Viaduct before it reversed to take the stragglers Dingle-bound. Its state prohibited doubleheading & Rolt mused it'd been "deliberately engineered to deter all but the most nerveless and unimaginative of passengers"!

RIP Eddie Jordan. Here's my Eddie story. In 1998 I went to the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa with some mates. Bob McKenzie, the F1 correspondent for the Express, where I was then working, advised us which restaurant to eat in at Spa. We had a very enjoyable evening watching a bunch

Honestly Southern we can do better with the journey planner because of engineering works. Fine if you aren’t providing a RRS at least get the journey planner to push passengers on to local bus services like the 319 (yes this is possible) which would serve passengers
