Long hours, dedication, and such important coverage from my friends at @WDSU. To all in South Louisiana tonight, please be safe. Too many names to fit in one post, but I’m thinking of you all.

Why does a Philadelphia Phillies legend think “getting hit in the nuts” saved his life? Find out in my latest piece for SABR. sabr.org/gamesproj/game…

In these breathtakingly odd times: 1) We should all have a breath work coach 2) All breath work coaches should look like they’re in ZZ Top #NCSTvsCLEM

The Athletics’ departure from Oakland will forever be a blemish on baseball. A textbook case of greed and hubris. I’m not saying Las Vegas doesn’t deserve a team, but to me, rooting for a Las Vegas Athletics team would feel akin to dancing on a grave. I’m sorry, Oakland.

My first foray into Substack! If you appreciate baseball’s place in American history — or if you just like good characters — I invite you to check out the occasional retrospectives I plan to post there. What better way to begin than to revisit an end? harrisongolden.substack.com/p/vin-scullys-…

Last time in New Orleans we ate at Dooky Chase’s Restaurant on the corner of North Miro and Orleans. If you’re ever there I highly recommend it.

PREORDER NOW: It has never been a more important time to honor a CNN origin story. I'm excited to announce that "CHANNELING," the autobiography that Fred Hickman and I worked on in his final months, comes out March 31 and is now available for preorder. linktr.ee/harrisongolden

I was honored to work on this latest story about former sports broadcaster Fred Hickman. He was legendary in the sports world but here in Baton Rouge, he was our evening anchor Louisiana First News for several years. His autobiography releases Tuesday. louisianafirstnews.com/news/fred-hick…

Few articles published by #SABR over the past half-century were not improved by Len Levin’s eagle eyes. He brought his experience as a journalist and teacher to the baseball research community and made an outsized impact. He died at 95 on Monday. sabr.org/latest/in-memo…

Thanks to Jim Engster for having me on 89.3 WRKF's Talk Louisiana this week! It was a pleasure to discuss the Fred Hickman autobiography "CHANNELING," available in hardcover, paperback, and ebook wherever you buy books online.

Fred’s life story doesn’t end on the final page. It continues through the memories, comments, and love that many of you have shared since the release. I’m forever grateful. If you’ve read “CHANNELING,” please rate/review on your online store of choice. Only one rule: Be honest!

Today in 1947, Jackie Robinson broke the "Modern Era" MLB color barrier. My latest for SABR revisits a different part of his career. In April 1954, his Dodgers played a set of games in Birmingham, Ala., among the city's first integrated MLB games. sabr.org/gamesproj/game…
