Long (for X) read. There's a lot going on in Calgary regarding housing strategy. That's a good thing. It means change. Our city, and the entire country is in the middle of a severe affordability crisis. Canadians of all ages cannot afford a place to live. This is contributing

You cannot decouple housing from profits without a plan on how to erase or redistribute trillions of real estate equity from millions of homeowners. Pretending that it’s just about Blackstone and bad REITs is both cowardly and selfish, especially if you’re a homeowner.

People shouldn’t have to share humiliating and sad stories in order to be heard. Housing affordability shouldn’t even be a debate. A city’s job is to make sure there’s housing for everyone, so listen to the experts and do the right thing for our city’s future. #yyccc

(If government is going to spend trillions of dollars building new social housing, perhaps it would be a good start to make it legal to actually build that housing.)
