The people decided to restore #Somaliland's independence. No leader has a mandate or legitimacy to undermine the people's aspirations expressed in a democratic process. A leader who surrounds himself with unionists should be seen as a threat to Somaliland's very existence.

This letter was sent to my father by former Somali Prime Minister Omer Arte Qalib on April 17, 1994, exactly six days after I was born. My father was a humanitarian worker, a strong believer in humanity, and had a deep love for the Hawd and Reserve area.
