#Statement | The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s surprise and regret at the decision of the #Afghan caretaker government to deny Afghan girls the right to university education.

"This barring is neither Islamic nor humane." Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu commented on the Taliban banning women from universities in Afghanistan. Besides Turkey, various other governments have condemned the Taliban’s decision.

It was right that Nobel peace prize recognised the fight against gender oppression. But it should have been an Iranian & Afghan woman jointly winning. Or both Iranian & Afghan women’s movements. Afghan women face near erasure from public life & they risk it all to protest.
