Recently we dendro-sampled two garrison-era roofs at Stirling Castle for Historic Environment Scotland. Action shot of Hamish Darrah coring taken by Aimee of CFA Archaeology Ltd who helped on site. We're researching timber shipping marks alongside #dendrochronology to reveal timber source and dates.

The tale of a timber, a tower and time. Read our blog on obtaining the first scientific dating evidence for the #Castle of Old Wick, Caithness, #Scotland. Hamish Darrah & I were delighted to collaborate with @willwyeth on this project - see link in 2nd post below for Will’s blog.

In my happy place! I'm leading the build of a woven hazel roundhouse for the Scottish Crannog Centre at the new museum site at Dalerb. The split oak doorway is set in the ground and we're now well underway with the the construction. #scottishcrannogcentre #experimentalarchaeology

Some of us are still recovering from the great day our members had yesterday 🪓 Lots of materially-inclined conversations and collaborations coming out of it! Thanks to all involved and for Hamish Darrah for showing us the ropes… or woods! 🪵

Delighted to be working with Trees for Life on the Wild Pine Project. This week we took samples to work out tree ages in this previously unrecorded West Highland site. One tree even had axe marks where ‘fir candle’ tapers had been taken long ago. #dendrochronology #rewilding

Delighted to see the progress with this project. I was involved with the rescue and dendro sub-sampling of the wreck earlier this year. Dr Coralie Mills Wessex Archaeology #Orkney

Excited to have received these LBA tools made by Bronze Age metal smith Neil Burridge. The axe heads are based on an example from the Kalemouth hoard, Roxburgh National Museums Scotland. These high quality replicas will be vital for my experiments. I can't wait to use them!

We’re excited to share that our marine team, and historic timber specialists Dr Coralie Mills, have received funding from @histenvscot that will enable us to continue investigating the #SandayShipwreck found on the shores of #Orkney. ⚓️🧐 Read more: ow.ly/YB4B50Ulya9
