Victims have the right to have details of the crime recorded without delay. Victims and bereaved families have a right to make a victim personal statement (VPS) to show the impact the crime has had on their life. This statement is considered by the Judge or magistrate when determining the sentence. #knowyourrights

As a victim, you have the right to be told the outcome of the case and given a short explanation of the sentence. If you believe the sentence is too low, in some cases, you can ask Attorney General to refer it to the Court of Appeal. You have 28 days to do this. #KnowYourRights

If a victim has not received any of their Rights under the Code, they can make a complaint to the relevant service provider. If they are not satisfied with outcome, they can ask their MP to refer complaint to Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman ( NB: the MP filter will be removed with Victims’ Law).
