I have thrown my computer from a four-story balcony. Forgive me. There were so many emails that did not find me well.

I’m so glad the Washington Post included this telling info in this report on Ahmaud Arbery’s case: how it was first reported locally, and how the decimation of small newsrooms sets up so many barriers to bringing the media attention justice (sadly) needs. washingtonpost.com/nation/2021/11…

Another year, another amazing run by local reporters. Take this tour of the U.S. where these reporters, in states red and blue, set out every day to expose wrongdoing in the communities where they live and work. Here’s just some of their findings:

A small thread, on newsrooms and where they let you live. I live in Dallas, my editor in chief lives in Denver. Our story editor lives in D.C. We have reporters in Arizona, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Texas. We are better for it.

Daughter: 4th-year UVA student. Distraught. In 20-person American Studies class with Devin Chandler. 3:30 today, in fact. "Dad, he's awesome. He always walks into class smiling and cracking jokes." She's talking in present tense. What class, you ask? "Non-Violence in America."

both devin chandler and lavel davis were my students. devin was in my class in spring 2022, and lavel is in my class this semester. I am so indescribably sad right now but I wanted to share a few memories of them, because they were wonderful people

my heart is with the Michigan community and the student journalists reporting on this tragedy. nobody should ever have to go through this.

Library workers are so underappreciated. I just overheard a Boise Public Library employee take time out of reshelving to have a lengthy conversation checking up on a gentleman who was using the phone and calling social service agencies over fears of being homeless.
