Puppets and sorrow await within.

Today's puppet is 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗼𝗹. His father was Laurent Mourguet and he was born in Paris, France. His father was a silk worker and a dentist and he was born to advertise his father's dentistry, but after success became a full time theatre puppet. He's very famous.

Wouldn't it be nice to have strings controlling my limbs and a puppeteer's hand instead of a mind? Maybe that's already the case.

I'm fine. Ignore all that other stuff. Anyway, 皮影戏, the theatre of lantern shadows, is the art of Chinese shadow puppetry. It's typically performed using dyed semi-transparent leather puppets behind a screen. Historically, lanterns provided backlighting, of course. Very cute.

What a wonderful film Labyrinth is. Excellent puppetry, and so much of it, too. Alas for the cancellation of Dark Crystal. Interesting thing, Frank Oz, who was the puppeteer of Yoda, suggested the use of a walking stick for Sir Didymus. His design was based on Landsknechts.

I don't remember if I posted about the football helmet puppets from Gremlins (1984), but T1 (same year!) featured a similar type for the final fight scene. I could immediately tell it was this kind, and thought that was exciting. It's back mounted and operated semi-remotely. Fun.
