Possibly as Alberti came from a banking family, skipping his 7yr architecture apprenticeship; in “The Lives of the Most Excellent Painters, Sculptors & Architects”, Vasari finds him an “admirable citizen who wrote books…whose work sometimes looks awkward (& indeed it is)” ?
