Children from Year 5 have been progressing their archery skills, remembering the rules, the correct positioning and being able to use the bow independently. The focus was on getting a better aim. They enjoyed competing against each other and some team games too.🏹🎯🏹

Last week the forest school children made pan cakes. “ It’s my first time making pancakes!” was a comment from one excited group member.

From mixing, cooking, flipping, flavouring and then eating the rectangle campfire pancakes were very popular. “ This is so nice!” Was one of the positive comments.👌

Children from Year 4 have been out on ‘fieldwork’. They have progressing their map reading skills whilst learning about orienteering.

The children have learned that correct orientation of the map is vital. Using the compass, looking at the key and looking at the finer details on the map whilst observing the ‘real life features’ of the environment, enabled us to navigate correctly.

Last weeks forest school session felt very tranquil. The children noticed their surroundings and there were lots of comments of how nice everything looked and how it made them feel happy.

Children from Year 3 have been out doing some field work. Whilst at Watergrove Reservoir we learned about the history of the village that was there before the reservoir was built. We talked about why this was a perfect location for a reservoir.

The children learned the basics of map reading and what orientation means as well as using the ‘key’. We used the map to navigate to different destinations to find a specific feature and plot it onto our map.

There was so much to see and talk about on our field work day - cobbled paths, ponds, streams, hills, wind turbines , stone walls with stiles. With every turn we could also say which direction we were travelling- N, S, E or W 🧭
