I hadn't seen this fine image of the Cenotaph before - from 1919, meaning it's the original wood and plaster structure. Interesting to see the wreaths on the end and top in colour.

100 years ago Lewisham's local army units were picking the WW1 Battle Honours to go on their colours (ceremonial flags), from a long list - the 20th Londons and the Royal West Kents, including the 11th Lewisham Battalion.

In WW1, Boots put out flyers claiming that cologne (as in fragrance) was nothing to do with Cologne (the German city) meaning that it was not unpatriotic to buy it.

Britain's entry into WW1 90 years ago today was, in fact, met with a range of emotions including enthusiasm, concern and fear. The main rush to join up came 4 weeks later when it looked like the British might lose. greatwarlondon.wordpress.com/2014/08/04/tha…
