Looks like good numbers of Swifts have arrived in East Herts - this morning I recorded 2 in Buntingford, 12 in Puckeridge and best of all 5 in Sawbridgeworth including my first nest record of the year. Follows Sawbridgeworth Swifts on Facebook for local updates #hertsbirds
Note to BirdGuides - this should be Widford, Oxfordshire, not Hertfordshire twitter.com/Hertsbirds/sta…
Swift bricks: are there any residents of Radlett, Elstree, Borehamwood or Potters Bar that would like to help me persuade Hertsmere BC to include Swift bricks in the new Local Plan? If so please get in touch #hertsbirds

We've had a little run of new birds which has largely filled up the Herts spring migrant tracker! First swifts and whinchats likely to appear over the next week or so.
Sawbridgeworth Swifts has now put up 26 Swift boxes in the Sawbridgeworth and Bishop's Stortford area in time for the return of the birds in a few weeks. A further installation day is planned soon for anyone in the area that is interested #hertsbirds
Herts Rooks part 4: over 2600 nests submitted for the 2024 rookery survey, but tough conditions for the birds in these persistent high winds. We have evidence of nest losses on a couple of stormy nights in the last two weeks #hertsbirds
First known occupation of Swift bricks in Herts - great to find 2 pairs of Blue Tits nesting in new build houses on the Taylor Wimpey development at Stevenage, showing the universal nature of these bricks. Just imagine if they were mandated for every house #hertsbirds #swifts
Herts Rooks part 2: over 1700 nests from 100 rookeries recorded so far in 2024. You can submit to the Bird Club website and now also see them and add your records on a Google Sheet I have created: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d… #hertsbirds
Herts Rooks 2024 part one: a request for nest counts. Please submit to the Herts Bird Club website, more details here: hnhs.org/herts-bird-clu… - extra help wanted this year as I am currently recovering from a broken ankle #hertsbirds

Overjoyed to attend Hertford TownCouncil meeting where krahertford's Baz Johns was recognised for his incredible work making swift (& other bird) boxes over the past two years with a joint award for #ecoheroism with Hertford Swift Group's Clive Fleming. Well deserved & well done!
By far the best way to help protect Swifts is to accurately record nest sites. Still time to add 2023 records for Hertfordshire #hertsbirds

Almost that time of year again for many tweets about Hertfordshire rookeries, but my main piece of advice after 10 years of surveying is to count nests later if you can. Subject to leafburst, best results are from the last week in March and throughout April #hertsbirds
As we're in March, we're kicking off the spring migrant tracker! This shows when we'd expect to first see 21 of the common spring migrants in Herts. The blue dots are from last year where the dates were quite predictable! Will update regularly as new birds appear. #hertsbirds
