I'm fascinated to see how the exodus of young talent from the #Shanghai #COVID19 #Lockdown will bring life to other cities in China. Will these transient workers take their creativity and entrepreneurship and build up smaller cities across the country?

Today I saw some of the first businesses (a wet market and a convenience store) opening since #Lockdown started in Shanghai 2 months ago. Despite that, access to these places was meticulously controlled with covid checks on the entrances and guards ensuring limited people enter.

Oh I see, I'm wide awake at 1:30am because Starbucks started delivering again in Shanghai and I figured it would be nice to have an iced coffee at 5pm after not having caffeine for 2 months.

Standing in line for another covid test today, over the past 60 days my neighborhood has been tested 2-3 times a day (2 at home tests and every other day a test like this) despite never having had a single case in the area. #shanghai #COVID19

I'm thinking about how rigorous testing is for people arriving in China, and despite that week of very invasive tests there are still a couple COVID cases found upon arrival. Omicron is an unstoppable force. #ZeroCovid is an immovable object. Shanghai is stuck in the middle.

Word seems to be out that most of Shanghai will opening from its 2 month lockdown on June 1st. Never a better time to support local businesses.

As Shanghai reopened today, we flooded the streets only to have to queue to get COVID tests required every 72 hours. Bars and restaurants aren't yet open either, so it was the perfect time to launch a ready to drink bottled cocktail over at Peddlers Gin. Sip while you queue.

Shanghai today is a roller coaster of senses. After two months of isolation the streets are bustling, the air is full of tantalising smells of food being cooked mixed with the occasional eye watering wreak of an industrial fridge being opened for the first time after 2 months.
