Asked my students why the US has to be the most powerful nation on the planet--the wealthiest, the most armed, etc. They were surprised and silence ensued. Looking forward to the rest of the term to return to this question.

So many academics showing a lack of care about actually understanding the world. There are academics who will theorise away the horrifying violence we’re witnessing. Careers and books and talks have underpinned colonialism for decades under the guise of ‘scholarship.’
