In my spare time, I volunteer with WA Seabird Rescue mostly dealing with recreational fishing entanglements. Sadly this Pied Cormorant died in my arms shortly after being rescued after swallowing a lure. Please, dont cut the line, call for help wasr.org.au #recfishing

Aus. authorities to buy out fisheries, citing climate crisis. Really interesting but made me think about those climate impacted fisheries where governments do not have the capacity to offer buy back schemes. via Guardian Environment #fishing #climatechange theguardian.com/environment/20…

Great to see you can have your cake and eat it. Fish. I mean fish🐟 New research finds #MSC certified sustainable fisheries have greater biomass than uncertified fisheries allowing you to eat sustainable seafood safe in the knowledge there are plenty of fish left in the sea.

740,000km of fishing line and 14 bn hooks lost at sea each year. A significant issue in some (not all) fisheries. Good timing too as Marine Stewardship Council prepares to publish strengthened Ghost Gear requirements on the 26 Oct phys.org/news/2022-10-k…

Interesting stuff here regarding the complexities of cross-jurisdictional fisheries management. Certainly worth a read beyond the Brexit clickbait title. theguardian.com/environment/20…

Interesting stuff looking at both IUU risk and transparency around seafood ownership. Still shocking to hear nearly 1 in 5 fish is caught illegally. Work to do! A new tool to peer into fishing networks: news.mongabay.com/2022/11/a-new-… via Mongabay
