This is so absurd as to be laughable! A reading test to re-engage disengaged students? Engage students by: 1. making the teaching reading more engaging & balanced (see Teresa Cremin CBE et al latest research) 2. follow the research & balance phonics & other approaches Charlotte Hacking

Stayed in all day Sunday waiting for DPD to collect my Samsung phone for repair only for them to never turn up. I even called Samsung UK repairs to check it was still booked for today to be told it was. Wasted a weekend day, had to rebook and it seems repair will take 11 days :(

Another email from an English teacher this morning about the appalling NATIONAL SCANDAL of GCSE English marking. They gave their permission to quote the email in full & I want to share it because it is so shocking. What are Ofqual & Department for Education doing about this?

Avoid DPD Services Just had a delivery person turn up when the product had been collected yesterday. He came twice, the second time getting me to open the package so he could scan it and taking my picture as if I had accepted the delivery. I deleted the pic and spoke to his boss.

Absolutely this. Fantastic thread by Emma. Children need to know we are pleased to see them and that we value them, lots of children need an advocate that has got them when it goes wrong. Spent Friday helping a family find accommodation as they had been made homeless.

I have a 10 hour round trip coming up for a school visit: what audiobooks have people enjoyed this year? All genres welcome.

Something surprising about non-fiction language analysis in AQA English Language Paper 2 (and, by extension, its use in P2Q5) 🧵

Mr Bruff (@mrbruffenglish) 's Twitter Profile Photo

The practical takeaway: Students should USE the same language features in Paper 2 Q5 that they already use (often brilliantly ) in Paper 1 Q5. Examples can be found in my guide to English Language: amzn.to/2GvPrTV

I get this question a lot, and yes I am sure! November 2017 was two narrative options. You will not ALWAYS be able to choose between narrative and descriptive in AQA P1Q5.

Scrooge’s miserliness isn’t only social — it’s personal. He lives in darkness, cold, and isolation. This isn't someone who lives lavishly and needs to share it around: his life is as empty and joyless as his moral outlook. What is the significance of this?

In this video I am looking at the top level descriptor 'deliberate crafting of linguistic devices' in AQA Paper 2 question 5:
