It seems you work your way up the hierarchy so you can 'focus on planning and strategic matters'. Keeping s4!t going is for the plebs. Keeping s41t going though is what pays the bills. In reality, very few people do effective strategy/planning. Its a whack system.

I think that short term the politicians win. Long term the useful people win.* *As long as there is a long-term, ie the damage sustained by the politicians isn't fatal.

Often I get the urge to walk in nature. About ~30 mins in - after letting my mind wander - I'll get an epiphany or two. Sometimes large, often small. But worth it. Definitely worth it.

Catch23: A complex problem exists today. Bob has the skills but doesn't want to become involved. The incompetence/corruption of others is causing Bob frustration. A sane person shouldn't be frustrated (given human history). You want a sane person to solve this problem.

At a course where they were advising what to do when the finances of a business are looking bad. 'Call in the advisors' 'Get back to bread and butter' 'Don't put horse before cart' Nah, that's sensible. Political execs will come in and do whacky. Step on the throat.

What is missing for blokes of today is the call to arms. The break from monotony to go off together with the tribe of warriors and see to some local rivals. Was probably a massive reset for men. A way to tight-knit a community. Most of the biffs had low casualties. Valuable.

Reliability of assets doesn't work if nobody actually executes repairs/upgrades because of compliance focus, bureaucracy, lack of skin in the game, mis aligned incentives and or poor leadership. Possibly time to move on and let them learn the hard way.

Reliability engineering is getting harder. Most organisations are trending towards a compliance-dominated culture. People, systems and processes are less focused on performance. Don't blame them given the litigious environment. However if tangible things dont happen = break
