Tamara from Gatwick Greenspace tells about their Nature Tots (3-5 year olds) starting Tilgate Park, Crawley Thurs 28 Sept. 'Autumn brings a bounty of treasures! We'll be foraging, squirrelling for acorns & catching falling leaves!' Book a block of 4 sessions: bit.ly/3Yhm8Zv

Earlier this month our Wildlife Rangers took part in the Big Butterfly Count, collecting valuable data about the species found in our meadow & garden. A highlight being a beautiful Silver Washed Fritillary. Sussex Wildlife Trust 🦔 Butterfly Conservation 🦋

Blackberries are a vital food source for a multitude of species including birds, dormice, foxes and invertebrates. The flowers also provide important sources of energy rich nectar for pollinators like butterflies and bees. 📸Alan Price Sussex Wildlife Trust 🦔

September is the start of nature's season of bounty, with fruit, seeds, berries and fungi in abundance. This bounty helps species to fatten up for winter and to cope with the colder weather! 📸Alan Price Sussex Wildlife Trust 🦔

We joined the Horley Conservation Group raking the grass cuttings from the Fieldings Community Orchard. Doing this encourages more wild flowers to grow each year, which is great for pollinators🦋The resident ground nesting bee colony are doing well too! 🐝 Sussex Wildlife Trust 🦔

Sunday 24th September 💦 #WorldRiversDay 💦 Riverside clean-up and community event to highlight South East Rivers Trust proposed improvement works to the #GatwickStream 💦🐟💚 - please come along! In September, migratory birds will leave heading to warmer climates for winter. Swallows & Osprey will be leaving, whereas Geese & Fieldfares will arrive in the UK. Common terns go as far as the Cape of Good Hope, in South Africa! 📸Barry Yates Sussex Wildlife Trust 🦔

Great to return to #TilgatePark #wildlife garden with our #YouthRangers and introducing @MyaBambrick (SWT's Youth Engagement Intern) last week. A good harvest to feast upon after a hard day's work! Sussex Wildlife Trust 🦔

Gatwick Volunteer Reserve Managers, Rachel Bicker (Gatwick Ecologist), and Barry Wildish (GGP Project Officer) pulling Glyceria maxima out of a pond in #Gatwick. This helps to prevent the pond becoming overwhelmed by the plant, which can reduce #biodiversity. Sussex Wildlife Trust 🦔

To celebrate World Teacher's Day 2023... We want to emphasise the importance of outdoor learning and those who spend their time teaching in our #ForestSchools. Educating, inspiring and sharing their passion for nature with the next generation. 📸Tamara Jewell Sussex Wildlife Trust 🦔

Grass snakes in Gatwick! The team were lucky enough to come across a whole snake skin shed whilst scything to manage habitat in Brockley Wood. #habitatmanagement Sussex Wildlife Trust 🦔

Recently, volunteers at Target Hill's Nature Reserve in Crawley were busy carrying out a multitude of tasks including re-coppicing willows around the wildlife pond. 🌳 This improves light levels for the pond during winter. Sussex Wildlife Trust 🦔

A great selection of species on today’s fungi foray whilst helping out at Sussex Wildlife Trust 🦔 Youth Rangers at Tilgate Park! Earthstar, Elf Cups, Amethyst Deceiver, and Polypore.

Team challenge for Halloween. Lower a magic gravity resistant stick to the ground. Use straight index fingers under stick. Dont loose contact. Easy right? Wildlife Rangers took 1 minute 45 seconds to complete. It's surprisingly difficult! Sussex Wildlife Trust 🦔

You ain't seen me! Learning camouflage techniques and stalking deer at #Tilgate park. #Wildlife Watch. Sussex Wildlife Trust 🦔

ESOL Students Crawley College have been working hard to maintain the heathland at #Tilgate Park. Heaths are fast disappearing. They support lots of birds, insects and other species. Removing Birch and Bracken helps prevent the loss of this habitat. Sussex Wildlife Trust 🦔 Crawley Council
