Folks, something seems to be happening... We show that our theory of gravity is valid down to the shortest distances arxiv.org/abs/2402.17844. and that it can explain the expansion of the universe and galactic rotation without dark matter or dark energy arxiv.org/abs/2402.19459 1/

Machine Learning Street Talk There is no inconsistency between those two segments. In fact, I'm pretty much making the same point. There are 4 models of computation: 1. y=f(x) where f has a fixed number of sequential non-linear steps 2. z(k+1)=g(z(k),x); y=f(z(K)) where K is in principle unbounded 3. ž =

Here's a fun AI story: a security researcher noticed that large companies' AI-authored source-code repeatedly referenced a nonexistent library (an AI "hallucination"), so he created a (defanged) malicious library with that name and uploaded it. 1/

Someone recently told me that Germany has the highest electricity prices in the world. I went to check and found it's wrong... we're second, one cent per kWh behind Denmark 😬 Source: worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankin…

Physics In History This image contains an equation from quantum field theory or a related field in physics. The Lagrangian density (\(\mathcal{L}\)) describes the dynamics of a field theory, which is the foundation for understanding the behavior of fundamental particles and forces. It seems to be a

My grandfather built motors that powered big machines. In a lab not so different from his workshop, my colleagues and I uncovered the assembly of the bacterial motor. Today, this discovery has been published in Nature Microbiology #MolecularNodes #Discovery nature.com/articles/s4156…

The most concerning part about this is that most Europeans don't realize how stagnant Europe has now become Europeans are literally blue-pilled and are mostly concerned with climate change, immigration and the Ukraine war Nobody in Europe is thinking why increasingly everything

I find it interesting that the word "science" in English has acquired a rather narrow meaning, usually referring only to the natural sciences. I have been wondering for some while now if not the shift of the meaning and use of the word "science" has had an impact on how the

Turns out, if you teach an entire generation of programmers to “never reinvent wheels”, you get an entire generation of programmers who are unable to invent new & better wheels, or who are incapable of maintaining the wheels that already exist

Wow. This video is truly eye-opening. Take a couple minutes to watch this. A mind-boggling visual representation of wealth inequality in America. This sh*t ain’t workin’, folks. #TaxBillionaires #UnionsForAll

If you are a student or academic researcher and want to make progress towards human-level AI: >>>DO NOT WORK ON LLMs<<< LLMs are an off ramp. Thousands of engineers are working on LLMs with enormous computing resources. The only way you could possibly contribute is by analyzing

"Quantum mechanics is just thermodynamics in imaginary time." It sounds like a hand-wavy, quasi-philosophical statement. But with a brief dive into the relationship(s) between hyperbolic and parabolic PDEs, it becomes possible to formalize it mathematically. (1/16)

The fallacy of absolute numbers I often come across the following type of arguments in research papers: You could save 3 bits of storage for every value in your database. Surely that's irrelevant. Nobody cares about saving 3 bits! You can sort arrays in 10 ms. Surely, that

So excited to share one of my white-whale projects: a fully physics-based, holographic foil shader. Each pixel simulates a ray of light diffracting into a rainbow of waves, which add and subtract to create these incredible patterns. Not a single gradient was used here!
