I do any bilateral/1:1 call with cameras off. Precisely so I can pace about and give the other person my full attention. I tell them this. Not one person has ever objected.

I'm quite impressed by the Copilot system in Outlook. Its ability to summarise a chain of emails is pretty good. But the best part is: I ask it to 'please insert a thumbs-up emoji'. And my inability ever to find the Mac emoji dialog is a problem of the past!

Anyone remember the 'climategate' controversy from '09/'10? Turns out one of the scientists at the heart of it is pursuing a defamation case, and the trial looks set to be highly entertaining. This podcast is following it day by day. Pretty good so far: podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/cli…

France is generating more than 50 GW from its nuclear plants -- a very important EdF turn-around that's helping to ease high electricity prices across Europe.

Meanwhile, Germany is generating >25 GW burning coal.

I go on holiday and two big enterprise blockchain networks reach impressive milestones. SIX Digital Exchange on Tuesday and then, today, Fnality goes live with real GBP payments across a Bank of England omnibus account: ledgerinsights.com/fnality-launch… Synthetic CBDC in effect. Congratulations!

It is very cold in UK at the moment. But no wind is blowing. Oops! grid.iamkate.com Assume it stays like this for a week and we'd decommissioned all fossil plants, we'd need to get 25GWh x 24 x 7 = ~4TWh of energy from elsewhere. What's the plan? Batteries? Anybody know?

I know... it's a totally unoriginal observation by now but, even when you know how it is done, copilot is still magic. I'm updating comments for a hobby project, and copilot is coming up with insanely insightful suggestions. Scary to think I will soon take this for granted.

Good contribution to the CBDC debate from Barclays Bank. Too much to summarise but one v. interesting finding is: some innocuous assumptions around requirements lead to entirely non-obvious implications for who needs to run key parts of the infra. Recommended twitter.com/ThinkRiseGloba…

A response to that FT piece regarding CBDCs and seignorage. This one from Richard Gendal Brown.

'A CBDC wouldn’t be bad because it didn’t pay interest. It would be bad if it didn’t replicate the properties of cash we will lose through our fetish for convenience.'
